Say Something Nice Day

In light of June 1st being Say Something Nice Day, I have decided to share a Facebook post from one of ROCK’s skaters.  This was posted the day after we won our first home bout:

“Warning: this may be one of those over-share moments. When I started playing roller derby I had no idea what I was getting into…it just seemed like a “good idea…” — I didn’t know the rules, I didn’t know how to skate, and I certainly had no idea that I was going to push myself (body and mind) so far outside of my comfort zones. I didn’t know that I was stepping into the most accepting and uplifting community of skaters, coaches, refs, volunteers, fans, etc. You ladies (and gents) have been a constant source of love and support as I moved through a pretty rough time in my life. I wouldn’t be the strong, confident, happy-with-myself person that I feel like I am today if it weren’t for each and every one of you. Thanks for believing in me, challenging me, accepting me, and affirming me. I appreciate each of you so very much. Words just don’t do it justice. I’m sitting here in a heap of tears because today I’m so freakin’ thankful that I listened and laced up those skates.”
